On July 1, the 15th Session of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People's Congress adopted the State Security Law for implementation as of the date of promulgation.
The State Security Law, consisting of seven chapters, specifies tasks and responsibilities for safeguarding national security, systems of national security, national security assurance, obligations and rights of citizens and organizations and other aspects. The State Security Law specifies that the State maintains the basic national economic system and the socialist market economic order and safeguards the security of important industries, key fields, key sectors, major infrastructures and major construction projects crucial to lifelines of the national economy as well as other major economic interests. The State establishes systems and mechanisms for national security review and supervision and conducts national security review on foreign investments, specific items and key technologies, network information technology products and services and construction projects involving national security that affect or may affect national security, as well as other important matters and activities.
