Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology ("MIIT") and the National Radio and Television Administration ("NRTA") have jointly issued the Guide to the Building of the Framework of Ultra-high Definition Video Standards (2020 Edition) (the "Guide").
The Guide envisions that by 2020, a preliminary framework of ultra-high definition (UHD) video standards will take shape; and by 2022, this framework will be further improved, with more than 50 standards set and progress made in the standardization work for the application in core areas and industries, including radio and television, culture, education and entertainment, security and protection monitoring, medical care and health care, intelligent transportation, industrial manufacturing, etc. To this end, the Guide outlines the concrete tasks for building the framework of UHD video standards. The framework of UHD video standards is mainly made up of six parts, namely general fundamentals, content production and broadcasting, network and business platforms, display on user terminals, security and regulation, and industry-specific application, and for each part, the Guide clarifies the subfields accordingly. Among others, application in the subfield of medical care and health care involves the standards for such products as UHD surgical field cameras and UHD medical monitors and the specifications for the application of UHD medical care systems. The Guide also touches upon the dynamic updating of the framework, the accelerated research and formulation of standards, among other key work.
