The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology ("MIIT") recently issued the Proposal for Promoting the Application of Cleaner Production Technologies in Key Industrial Sectors for the Prevention and Control of Air Pollution (the "Proposal").
The Proposal requires promotion of the use of advanced and applicable cleaner production technologies among companies focusing on iron and steel, building materials, petrochemicals, chemicals, nonferrous metals and other key industries, implementation of the upgrading of cleaner production technologies, and great reduction of the generation and discharge of industrial smoke (powder) dust, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, volatile organic compounds and other air pollutants to ensure that the amount of emissions of major pollutants in the above-mentioned industries achieve more than 30% reductions by the end of 2017 compared with that of 2012. The Scheme also specifies the technologies that can be promoted in the above-mentioned industries, as well as the scope of application of the technologies.
