The General Office of the National Health Commission ("NHC") has recently issued the 2019 Standard-setting Plan for National Food Safety Standards (Draft for Comment) (the "Draft for Comment") for public consultation by June 1, 2019.
The Draft for Comment enumerates two standards in relation to food products, nine standards for nutrients and special diet foods, 10 specifications regarding the quality of food additives, 15 standards concerning the quality of nutrient supplements in food, one standard for food-related products, seven codes of good manufacturing and business practices, and 37 sets of testing methods and specifications. Among the codes of good manufacturing and business practices in the pipeline are "National Food Safety Standard: General Hygienic Regulation for Food Production (GB 14881-2013)" and the regulation on control of lead pollution in foods; and the two standards relating to food products are the standard for "milk protein" and the "National Food Safety Standard: Brewed Wine and Its Compound Wine (GB 2758-2012).
