The Decision of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress on Amending Eight Laws Including the Judges Law of the People's Republic of China, adopted at the 29th session of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People's Congress on September 1, 2017, is hereby issued and shall take effect as of January 1, 2018.

Decision of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress on Amending Eight Laws Including the Judges Law of the People's Republic of China

It was decided at the 29th session of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People's Congress that:

I. The Judges Law of the People's Republic of China shall be amended as follows:
1. Paragraph 1 of Article 12 shall be amended to read: "Persons to be appointed judges for the first time shall be selected through examination or appraisal and in accordance with the standards of having both ability and political integrity, and shall be selected from among those who have passed the national unified legal professional qualification exam and have obtained the legal professional qualification and are best qualified for the post."
