Administrative Provisions on the Registration of Enterprise Names, revised and adopted at the 118th executive meeting of the State Council on December 14, 2020, is hereby promulgated for implementation from March 1, 2021.

Administrative Provisions on the Registration of Enterprise Names (Revised in 2020)
(Promulgated by the Order of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce of the People's Republic of China No.7 on May 6, 1991; revised for the first time according to the Decision of the State Council on Revising and Repealing Certain Administrative Regulations on November 9, 2012; and revised and adopted at the 118th executive meeting of the State Council on December 14, 2020)
Article 1 These Provisions are formulated with a view to standardizing the registration and administration of enterprise names, safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of the enterprises, maintaining social and economic orders and optimizing business environment.
Article 2 Market regulation departments of the people's government at or above county level (hereinafter referred to as the "enterprise registration authority") shall be responsible for registration and administration of enterprise names for enterprises incorporated within the territory of China.
Market regulation department under the State Council shall take charge in the registration and administration of enterprise names nationwide, and shall be responsible for formulating specific norms on registration and administration of enterprise names.
Market regulation departments under the people's governments of provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government shall be responsible for building a uniform system for declaration of enterprise name and an enterprise name database in their respective administrative regions, which shall be made available to the public.
Article 3 The enterprise registration authority shall constantly make the registration and administration of enterprise names more standardized and convenient and provide enterprises and the people with efficient and easy-to-access services.
Article 4 An enterprise can only register one enterprise name, which shall be protected by law.
Article 5 An enterprise name shall adopt standardized Chinese characters.
